Communications Problems

Communications errors can occur when components of the DeltaV system are not properly:

Communication failures can affect the DeltaV environment in the following manner:

Network - a failure in network communications can manifest itself by a loss of communication between the Batch Executive and the Batch Operator Interface. In each of the Batch Operator Interface's screens, this failure is represented by the connection names changing color and the word LOST appears in red on the Batch Operator Interface status bar.

Network communications can fail for numerous reasons, including distance between the Batch Operator Interface and Batch Executive, the number of routers a communication must traverse, and faulty connections. Operators experiencing a failure in the network communications should check the connections and power source for all equipment. More complex problems should be referred to a network administrator.

Power - a power failure on the Batch Executive machine causes a loss in communications. The word LOST appears in red on the Batch Operator Interface's status bar. Communication is restored when power to the Batch Executive machine is restored and DCOM finishes resetting and reconnects. This DCOM behavior might take time. The Batch Operator Interface's status to the Batch Executive remains LOST until the entire process completes.
