DeltaV v8 Software Introduces Smart SIS, Extends Ease, and Advances Smart Plant Capabilities
The Heart of Emerson’s smart SIS DeltaV SIS is at the heart of Emerson’s smart
Safety Instrumented System (SIS) solution.
The fully TÜV-approved DeltaV SIS logic solver
communicates with intelligent field devices
using predictive field intelligence to reduce
personnel exposure to hazardous areas and
increase the overall process availability. It is
integrated into the DeltaV system, sharing all
of the same HMI, engineering and
maintenance applications. But it has the
separation required between control and
safety systems per the IEC 61508 international
safety standards, with dedicated logic solver
modules and a dedicated safety network.
To assist you in your IEC 61511 safety
compliance efforts, DeltaV SIS incorporates
the same user management as the DeltaV
system with repeat confirm dialog boxes
based on user privileges.
The logic solvers are rated for use in SIL 1, SIL
2, and SIL 3 applications and redundancy is
available.
Easier IEC 61511 Lifecycle Compliance IEC 61511 lifecycle compliance is made easy
with version control for DeltaV SIS items like
SIS modules and logic solvers. You can enable
version control for SIS items only or for all
items in the configuration database. This
integrated approach helps you manage, track,
and enforce user activities like checkout, signoffs,
and other verification procedures.
Improved IEC 61511 Change Management Unlike other safety systems, and a key feature
for IEC 61511 change management, DeltaV
SIS module authorization prevents download
of unauthorized SIS modules. Safety Integrity
Levels (SIL) 1, 2, and 3 can be designed and
implemented to have separate signing
authority levels.
Upgrade DeltaV System without Impacting SIS A checksum report compares any DeltaV
software upgrade to the DeltaV SIS logic
solvers’ current database to prove there are no
changes in the safety configuration.
More Powerful Advanced Control DeltaV PredictPRO provides powerful
advanced control for large applications—now
with capability to address up to 80 controlled
variables and 40 manipulated variables.
DeltaV PredictPro Optimization provides
improved performance and new capabilities to
address a wide range of optimization
applications.
Easier Historical Access Operators can view historical trends of key
operating values in their DeltaV Operate
graphics to make better decisions and increase
their effectiveness.
Secure Historical Information Now you can automatically schedule or
programmatically execute backups of your
DeltaV Continuous Historian data to provide
greater data integrity and improved
Continuous Historian database maintenance.
Increased Operator View The DeltaV Four-Monitor Workstation
provides additional screen "real estate" for
viewing more process information from a
single workstation. Using existing displays, or
modifying with enhanced display
management tools, operators can open
multiple displays and faceplates without
covering important process views or trend
information.
Easy, Configurable Keyboard Control The DeltaV Operator Keyboard provides a
totally configurable operator keyboard function. You can navigate the
displays and make control changes
with quick and easy finger touch on
the keyboard.
More Efficient Engineering To simplify the engineering of large
DeltaV projects, DeltaV Bulk Edit
capabilities have been extended to
SIS Modules, Remote I/O, and
DeltaV Continuous History.
Increased Installation Flexibility Remote I/O Zones 1 and Remote I/O
Zone 2 (Class 1, Div 2) provide for
greater installation flexibility. DeltaV
Remote I/O provides communication
and control between the
I/O and controllers. Unlike other
remote I/O approaches, DeltaV
Remote I/O can connect with
multiple controllers to address even
the toughest application
requirements.
Increased Controller
Performance MDPlus Controller supports all the
functionality of the MD, adding
increased memory and extended
temperature rating. For new DeltaV
systems, this controller supersedes
the MD controller.
Enhanced Power Supplies DIN-rail-mounted Bulk Power
Supplies provide increased flexibility
over standard off-the-shelf supplies.
Simpler and much cleaner
installations are possible due to the
embedded load-sharing capabilities.
Improved Batch Executive
Performance The DeltaV Batch Executive is now
easier to use and more flexible in
managing multiple batches by
completely segregating individual
batch operations. By supporting
partial downloads, the Batch
Executive enables engineers to
adjust individual batches or recover
from undesired states without
affecting other batches.
Enhanced Recipe Operation Now, advancing your recipes is
faster and easier. With appropriate
privileges, a single mouse click lets
you force a transition to easily move
forward in your recipes without
waiting for each step's execution.
Simplified Phase Manual
Operation Running manual phases is now
simplified with a single
acknowledge for all phase
parameters. Optional signature
verification requirement makes
these operational changes suitable
for validated industries and supports
the new FDA PAT initiative that
encourages ongoing operational
improvements.
Enhanced Operator Batch
Controls Now you can access, view and
control batch and process data from
any DeltaV Operate process graphic
screen. Embedded DeltaV Batch
Controls for Operate include:
- Batch List -- provides operators a
comprehensive view and status of
active batches
- Command Toolbar -- lets operators
create and define recipe
equipment and formulas for each
batch in a single dialog, then
control with familiar commands
- Comments Box -- lets operators
add comments to each batch
without losing process view.
Enhanced Recipe Exchange Recipe Exchange adds the Delete
Assignment method. This method
deletes the assignment of the
specified recipe from the Batch
Executive of the specified
workstations.
Predictive Intelligence Alerts
Extended for HART® The power of PlantWeb® Alerts and
predictive intelligence extends to
the HART communications protocol.
Your DeltaV MD controller detects
and alarms device alert conditions.
Device alarms, faceplates and detail
displays are available to operators in
the DeltaV Operate software. HART
devices can be connected to local
DeltaV I/O cards or DeltaV SIS logic
solvers.
The standard HART device status
information can be used to generate
PlantWeb alerts for any HART
device. Select Emerson HART
devices provide specific error
messages to simplify the
troubleshooting process.
Smarter FOUNDATION Fieldbus
Alarming Conditional alarming adds "on"
and/or "off" delay time configuration
capability to make process alarms
more discriminating of intermittent
process changes, thus reducing
nuisance alarms. Conditional
alarming is now available for Analog
input, PID, and discrete input
FOUNDATION fieldbus blocks running
in fieldbus devices.
Improved Alarm Management
and Analysis DeltaV Analyze makes it easy to
improve operator effectiveness by
assessing unusual alarm, event and
operator activity. In the past, this
activity required reviewing pages and pages of
console logs or searching through
thousands of spreadsheet entries.
Often, fewer than 10 modules cause 40% or
more of the alarm activations. So by addressing just a
few alarms, you can significantly improve operator alarm loading.
Seamless DeltaV Continuous
Historian / OSIsoft PI
Connectivity Operators and plant managers can
now seamlessly view, analyze, and
integrate their DeltaV Continuous
Historian data using their favorite PI
software through the use of the PI
Protocol Converter, combining the
power of PlantWeb and the power of
PI to transform data into
intelligence, increasing plant
performance and improving
decision making. The PI Protocol
Converter is available for DeltaV
v7.4.1 and later releases and is
compatible with PI Datalink, PI
ProcessBook, PI ActiveView, PI
RtPortal, and the PI to PI Interface.

Segment Communications
Views To evaluate fieldbus segment
communications for available space
for additional devices or to aid in
troubleshooting, you can now
graphically view the macrocycle
execution for a given H1 port.
Improved Fieldbus Device
Downloading & Commissioning The DeltaV Controller and I/O
Upgrade utility can now save you
hours of outage time by
downloading new FOUNDATION
fieldbus device firmware to devices
without decommissioning.
Downloads can be activated
immediately or later by user-request
for Class 1 devices that support this
capability.
Enhanced Version Control and
Audit Trail VCAT Archive and Restore provides
archive functions for items managed
in a Version Control and Audit Trail
(VCAT) database for your regulatory
compliance and analysis
requirements. Archive the Version
Control database based on either
date or on number of versions to
keep in the active database. You can also restore previously archived
versions for individual items.
VCAT for DeltaV User Manager
provides an audit trail containing
user security operations performed
in the DeltaV User Manager, for
DeltaV database accounts only. The
audit trail tracks creation of new
DeltaV database accounts and
account modifications and deletions
by storing the date, time, user
name, and description of the event
in the Version Control Audit Trail
database. New summary and
detailed reports enable easy
documentation of user accounts and
privileges.
Improved Operator Graphics
Change Management Version Control for Graphics is a new
option in version control, enabling
the configuration engineer to track
changes to DeltaV Operate graphics.
It includes support for rollback,
recover, purge and undo checkout.
VCAT for Operator Interface Files
provides the capability to manage
changes to displays, dynamo sets,
and schedules by retaining previous
versions of these files. Version
Control for DeltaV Operate uses the
same rules and functionality as
Version Control for configuration
and user security.
Enhanced Electronic Signature
Coverage Electronic Signatures provide
accountability for operator writes
(by requiring user names and
passwords) to certain module
parameters and fields, as required
for regulatory and other compliance
purposes. Electronic signatures are
applied whether the change is
initiated from DeltaV Operate or
Control Studio Online, ensuring
consistent enforcement. Parameters
of database items can be configured
to require a “comment”, “confirm”,
and “verify” before a change of the
parameter is executed.
With DeltaV v8 software, ease-ofuse
and performance improvements
have been incorporated into the
DeltaV applications. Some of the
highlights are:
- Diagnostics opens 10 times faster
than before. Unit Module in
Control Studio now opens 3 times
faster.
- Text/graphic intensive module in
Control Studio now opens 9 times
faster.
- Module in Control Studio with 100
PID function blocks now opens
twice as fast.
- A "save" of a linked composite
with block added can now be
performed 3 times faster.
- All nodes in Diagnostics can now
be scanned 3 to 4 times faster.
- AMS FOUNDATION fieldbus can
now be launched, transducer
blocks opened, resource blocks
opened, and parameters read
twice as fast as before.
- From AMS Suite: Device Manager
inside the DeltaV system,
Resource and Transducer Block
display call time is now 40% faster
than ever before.

Operating System Security
Updates Guardian Support subscribers
receive automated notifications
whenever DeltaV system
compatibility evaluations are
completed for a Microsoft Operating
System (OS) security update that is
specifically applicable to one of the
system’s workstations or servers.
The Guardian Support website
provides all the relevant evaluation
details and a link to download
approved OS security updates.
Simplified Management of
System Technical Issues Guardian Support subscribers
receive automated notifications
whenever a knowledge-base article
(KBA) is issued or updated that is
specifically applicable to one of the
system's controllers, workstations or
I/O devices. The Guardian Support
website provides all the relevant
details in an executive summary
format, with identification of the
affected system node names and a
link to download any available hotfixes.
Simplified System-Investment
Lifecycle Management Guardian Support subscribers
receive automated notifications
whenever DeltaV products
transition to a new lifecycle status or
there are updates to the transition
forecast. The Guardian Support
website provides product lifecycle
definitions and forecasts,
replacement product model
numbers, hardware warranty status,
support service expiration status,
software version compatibility data
and other information specifically
applicable to the system’s hardware
devices, to simplify day-to-day
system lifecycle tasks and long-term
system migration management.
Easy and Secure Collection of
System Content Version
Information The DeltaV v8.4 SureService
Registration Utility automatically
collects detailed system hardware
and software version information,
which it outputs to an encrypted
data file for subsequent off-line
internet upload safely away from the
control room. Guardian Support
