Changqing, China gas field doubles output capacity with expansion including Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture
A celebration was held in Changqing, China for successful start-up of the second purification plant at the Changqing gas field on October 28, 2001. A total investment of $47 million (RMB 389 million), annual natural gas processing capability of the new plant is 2.5 billion cubic meters, boosting the field capacity to 4.25 billion cubic meters.
Emerson's PlantWeb digital plant architecture was selected as the most innovative, proven architecture for the current project and future process management needs of the Changqing field --a key component of the "West to East Gas Transportation Project" carried out by the Party Central Committee and the State Council. Startup was on October 28, 2001, five months ahead of schedule, and delegations from the municipal government, relevant enterprises and China Central TV attended the start-up ceremony.
Mr. Zhang Zhen Wen, deputy plant director and project manager of the first gas plant said, "We are using this totally integrated system for distributed control, centralized monitoring, and operations and schedule management to improve the plant's operational security, reliability and overall plant performance.
Mr. Liu Yi, factory director of the purification plant said, "The successful start-up of the second plant more than doubled our natural gas purification capability. The quality was also enhanced which makes Changqing gas a key transfer point for gas to the eastern region."
The second purification plant was mainly composed of two sets of four million cubic meter processing units and some other auxiliary facilities. Emerson supplies the PlantWeb digital plant architecture with a DeltaV digital automation system, and over 140 Rosemount® pressure transmitters, and FisherŪ regulators and Daniel flow instruments. In addition, PlantWeb's AMS predictive maintenance software is used with the intelligent field devices for overall instrumentation management.
Mr. Liu Yi, the Factory Director of Plant continued, "The unique design of the DeltaV digital automation system simplifies the installation and commissioning process, enabling us to complete the project five months ahead of schedule. The processing capacity reached four million cubic meters per day at 12:00 on Oct. 25th and all three required operational tests were passed with great success. The quality of the gas is better than the standard of the Grade A specification."
Competitive operation is a key driver for selection of the PlantWeb digital plant architecture. The PlantWeb advantages help Changquing Oil Field Company stay ahead of its competition. The successful startup of the second purification plant have helped to relieve the high demand for gas supply in Beijing, Tianjing and Hohhot cities and at the same time set up a strong foundation for the future development of Changqing gas field.
